Well, if we talk about gaming then it is no confusion. Simply a gaming monitor will beat 4K monitor any day of the week. Due to high refresh rate a gaming monitor can process more frames per second than a 4K monitor. A 4K monitor mostly have 60Hz refresh rate, whereas a gaming monitor has 144Hz or above, which makes sure you see the smoothest in-game graphics, while enjoying your favourite games with your friends. Same is the case with response time which is quicker in gaming monitors. If you want a monitor to be working on, then it is a whole different story. If you are using a 4K resolution, then the screen size must be 27 inches or higher. If the screen size is small, then the text and other small characters will be compressed, and not clearly visible. So, if you are going for a 4K monitor, then at least make sure the screen size is 27 inches at minimum.

On the other hand, if you are going for a gaming monitor it will give you more colour accuracy, while you are performing your multimedia development or editing tasks. The colours are vivid and sharp, but the overall picture quality can vary depending on your settings.

Which is Better?

It is quite difficult to answer this question because it is all subjective. It depends on the purpose and your usage. If you guys want to play your games with the smooth and life-like graphics, then you should just go for a gaming monitor having 144Hz refresh rate, and a quick response time, rather than a 4K monitor having a 60Hz refresh rate and much lower response time. The same goes for streaming and working. So, it is safe to say that it all depends on your preference and choices.
